Warrior Recap: 2/20-2/26

Men’s Basketball:

Warrior Men’s Basketball finished the regular season and had their eye on a KCAC conference championship. After defeating the 2 seeded and 12th ranked nationally Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes on Wednesday night 75-66 in Salina.

On Saturday however the Warrior’s season came to an end after a loss to the Bethel Threshers 90-73 in the KCAC Conference Tournament Semifinals.

On Wednesday, Elias Ngoga led the way for the Warriors with 17 points and 14 Rebounds to complete the double-double. On Saturday Ngoga again added 18 points and finished with 9 Rebounds.

Women’s Basketball:

On Thursday the Lady Warriors defeated the McPherson College Bulldogs in the first round of the KCAC Conference Tournament 85-47.

The Warriors were led offensively by Karsen Schultz, Kali Briar and Taya Wilson who all finished in double figures.

On Saturday the Lady Warriors were defeated by University of Saint Mary 78-66 in the KCAC Semi-Finals.

The Lady Warriors are still in a good spot to receive a bid to the NAIA National Tournament being ranked 20th in the nation.

On the awards side of things, Taya Wilson was voted KCAC Player of the Year, Karsen Schultz was first team all KCAC and Kali Briar was voted KCAC Freshman of the Year.

Softball:

Softball had a very busy week. On Tuesday they defeated the Central Christian College Tigers 9-0 in game one of the doubleheader and 7-2 in the second game. The Warriors scored in 6 of the 7 frames in the first game.

Allie Oliviarra went 6 innings allowing 2 hits and striking out 5.

In the second game the Warriors scored 7 runs on 12 hits.

In their Weekend doubleheader against Hastings College the Warriors lost game one 11-3 but bounced back in the second game winning 7-5.

In game two, the Warriors were led offensively by two big innings and multiple hits from Sam Araiza and Alyssa Mason. Aiyanna Campos added a sac fly.

Baseball:

Sterling Baseball went 1-3 on the week. On Tuesday they defeated the 11th ranked Oklahoma City University Stars by a score of 10-8.

In that game they were led by Ryan Speer and Layne Thacker who each collected three RBI’s in the contest and Jackson Kawelo who hit a homer in the top of the 9th.

The weekend series was quite the opposite however as the Warriors were swept in three games by Texas Wesleyan.

The Warriors begin conference play Tuesday at home against Kansas Wesleyan.

Tennis:

On Saturday Sterling Tennis defeated Baker University 6-1. There were no stats available at press time.
