Warrior Sports in Review from the week of Feb 27-Mar 4.

On Feb 28, baseball began the week with a loss against Kansas Wesleyan 2-5, a close game compared to previous seasons against the Coyotes. This was the first conference game for the Warriors but didn’t take the loss too hard as they split their next games against St. Mary later on in the week.

Swimming was sent off to the Columbus Aquatics Center in Colombus, GA on Mar 1. in a four-day contest.

Sydney Smidt pulled off a lifetime best in her 50 Freestyle competition (23.74), taking home 6th place in the 50 Freestyle Finals at the NAIA Swimming Championships. Schmidt finishes 2nd in the 100 Fly as well. Schmidt finishes prelims ranked 16th, originally tied, and had to go into swim-off. Smidt finished second in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 56.20, below her KCAC record.

Jared Price placed eighth in the Men’s 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:52.12. Price also competed in the 200 Breaststroke, placing sixth with a time of 2:16.11.

Nicole Sierra placed eighth in the Women’s 400 IM with a time of 5:04.84.

Nicole Ashford placed seventh in 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:08.69

Jonah Lugo competed in the 200 Butterfly and placed eighth with a time of 2:11.73.

This completes swims season, having started in September and working through the fall and spring semesters.

Despite Tennis earning their first win last week against Baker University (6-1), they carried the same energy in this week’s matches against Hastings College (6-1). The Warriors improved greatly since last season against Hastings, where they lost all seven matches.

Baseball played their second conference opponent in a triple-header against St. Mary on Mar 3-4. The Warriors went 2-1 against the Spires on their home field. The Warriors took the first two games with a 13-9 win and a 14-0 sweep. St. Mary took home a win, however, in the last game with a score of 5-4. This brings their record to 9-10 overall.

Tennis travels to Concordia University on Mar 4 as well, but couldn’t find any footing against the Cobbers. Sterling lost all seven matches, fixing their record to 1-4 overall. Tennis plays against four more opponents before their conference season begins on Mar. 16, against Bethel.

Softball plays a double-header against Briar Cliff University on Mar 4. Unfortunately, the Warriors lost both games, the first one with a score of 3-5 and the second one by a mere score of 1-0. This brings their overall record to 4-8. Softball has two opponents before the start of their conference season against Kansas Wesleyan on Mar. 14.
