Avatar: The way of wasting money

James Cameron delivered us a colossal letdown of a movie. The movie stretched on for 3 hours and 16 minutes when the plot alone could have been reduced to a 30-minute cartoon. Cameron spent years working on these movies, and it is clear he did not put the same amount of effort into the script as he did into the directing/ CGI. I will give it to him, the movie was a visual masterpiece, but it felt like a video game or something that should be a part of Disney World.

Cameron’s first Avatar movie, which was released in 2009, was a masterpiece. Excellent plot, great character development, and beautiful scenery. So, it is fair to say that I had been looking forward to the second movie….to a decade later…….everyone has forgotten about Avatar! Not only has Cameron released this second movie, but he’s also written, shot, and wrapped up four other additions to the, now, saga.

The premise of the movie is ex-marine/ex-human, Jake Sully, and his family fleeing from the “Sky people.” With Jake Sully is his wife, the dynamic warrior Nytari, and their children. Along with a semi-feral human named “spider,” who in my opinion was the worst character in the movie.

The main antagonist of the movie is the same antagonist as the first Avatar, Miles Quaritch. Throughout the movie, he is determined to find and kill Jake Sully and his family. To escape Miles and his vicious goons the Sully family escapes to a “water world.” Which in a way is the reason for the new movie. With the new water world comes a lot of cliches and lazy writing. The vanilla plot sounds like a children’s story without the humor or warm-hearted ora.

I am disappointed with this movie, but I am mainly disappointed with major Hollywood blockbusters in general. I feel that they have become less focused on acting and plot, and more on major explosions, intense CGI, and taking steroids until you look like the Hulk. This movie was just another addition.

I would give this movie a C. If I’m being honest it would be a D, but since the CGI was beautiful. I figured it deserved a C.
