Warrior Recap 8/28-9/2

Football:

After a disappointing week one showing, the Warrior football team looked at bouncing back against McPherson College at home on Saturday the 2nd of September. In week one McPherson dismantled Tabor College by a score of 51-17. After the first quarter McPherson lead the contest by 7, before getting the score up to 20-0 halfway through the quarter the Warrior offense would score 17 unanswered, heading into the break down 3 points. Sterling would continue to add on in the third quarter. Back-to-back touchdowns by Kendrick Bell, and a leaping grab by Ryan Stucky brought the Warrior lead to eleven. Late in the 4th McPherson went on a run of their own, scoring 14 unanswered points to stun the Warriors at home 34-31. Next week SC heads to Missouri to take on the newest members of the KCAC Evangel University.

Volleyball:

SC Volleyball continued their strong start to the 2023 campaign taking 3 out of 4 at the College of the Ozarks Tourney, on day one they swept all three sets from Baptist Bible College, before dropping three sets to the home team College of the Ozarks. On Saturday, they took on Haskell College and Peru State sweeping both contests to improve to 6-2 on the young season. The Warriors travel to Haskell College on Wednesday, Sept. 6th.

Men’s Soccer:

Sterling Men’s Soccer went undefeated on the week taking their first contest 6-0 against Randall University, in a makeup contest from August 23rd. The Warriors scored 4 goals in the first half and two in the second. Stevy Kama picked up a hat-trick in the contest with additional goals coming from Ruben Guzman, Angel Jimenez-Cortes, and Jonathon Torres. On Friday Sept. 1, they defeated Baptist Bible College by a score of 8-2, with Stevy Kama and Matt Dale each securing a brace on the day.

Women’s Soccer:

The Lady Warrior’s won their only contest of the week 3-0 against Central Christian College of Kansas. Jessica Gautreau solidified the performance with a hat-trick and assists coming from Francesca Vilca and Mika Stone. Shaylee Gibbs had a clean sheet in goal saving all 4 of the Central Christian attempts. The Warriors return to the pitch on Monday, at Ecclesia College.
