Sterling Softball Set to Start Season

SC Softball will being their 2024 campaign on the road this weekend when they head to Dallas, T.X. to take on the Dallas Christian Crusaders in a four game set.

They look to build off of their season last year in which they finished with a 12-28 overall record, and being named the KCAC Team Champions of Character for their work in the Sterling area and community.

The Lady Warriors will bring a young team to the diamond this season, but one with a lot of energy. Junior Infielder Aiyana Campos said “The strongest part about our team this year is being a family.” And how they have “Grown with each other on and off the field.”

The Warriors will start KCAC play on March 12th, when they host Kansas Wesleyan University and have their home opener on February 10th when they play Hastings College in a doubleheader.

Campos, believes that the Lady Warriors have improved drastically on the defensive side of the game stating “Our outfield has worked very hard to make better plays and get the ball in quicker. And the infield has made less errors on the field and making the plays that need to be made.” citing that defense is going to be a key factor in their games this season.

On top of the returners from last year, sterling has added a couple JC transfers and Freshman that can make an impact right away.

Coming from Northeastern J.C. in Sterling, C.O. Junior Desiree Perales is confident in the team and the ability to be consistent throughout the season. “Putting in the work to understand what I need to do and how I can work with the other girls around me, I can do my part by showing my teammates they can trust me, and knowing they have my back when I mess up.”

The character of the Warrior Softball program has never been in question and this is set to be another good year for them in that category as well.
